Our Bathroom Remodel – a learning experience! Part 1

We kind of started our previous blog because of our bathroom remodel. So I figured we should at least try to move some of that over here to the new blog. Our posts about it were a little bit disjointed so I will try to organize the posts here about it a little better. Also, we started our bathroom remodel in October of 2014 and it still isn’t done! This is mostly because of time and money issues. It is functional right now, though I am hesitant to invite people over because of how the other half of the bathroom looks.

Part 1 of this series will be about how the bathroom looked when we bought it. I am convinced that the state of the bathroom is part of the reason we were able to make an offer on this house that was in our price range.

This was the pic of the bathroom on our housing listing. It doesn't look too bad in the picture but it wasn't very nice in person!

There was a box in the ceiling called a soffit I think. It made the bathroom look a lot smaller.

This is the wall above the bathtub, more wood!
Vintage tile!
Vintage tile! The tile was not in too bad of a shape on the vanity, but the shower was another story.

Above the toilet
Above the toilet. So much wood everywhere. The brass hardware and white cabinets needed to be replaced or get a facelift.
Only one sink for the 7 of us to share! This made for a lot of fighting amongst our 4 boys.

Unfortunately, we did not take a lot of pictures of the bathroom BEFORE we started remodeling. I guess we just didn’t think there was a reason to take pictures when we bought it. We spent a lot of time on other parts of the house before  moving in and didn’t do much to the bathroom.  It wasn’t until October of 2014 that we were able to start working on the bathroom. I couldn’t take the horrid wood plank walls anymore. The vanity area, walls, and ceiling are mostly finished now and we have the shower stall, the bathtub, the flooring, and the toilet area left to remodel.

Part 2 will be about the demolition.
