Night blooming Cereus: Second Bloom
It's our second bloom night! One of our night blooming cereus bloomed last night, three of the remaining four bloomed tonight. Those three did not disappoint!

Night-Blooming Cereus: First Bloom
I just finished writing a post about the night-blooming cereus in our yard and how they might bloom in the next few days. Then found out that it was possible they would bloom tonight! But it turns out that only one of our night-blooming cereus bloomed tonight and that we still have four left to go.

Night-Blooming Cereus: Bloom Watch
I mentioned the night-blooming cereus cactus in one of our This Week on the Homestead posts. There are different varieties but I think our particular ones are Peniocereus greggii. The flowers bloom for one night in June or July starting around 8 PM and then close by dawn the next day.

Kiwico Tinker Crate: Mechanical Bird
The Tinker Crate line at Kiwico is for ages 9-16. This particular crate, the mechanical bird, could probably count as an engineering/art crate. This crate contains gears and paper/cardboard pieces to build your own bird that can flap its wings.

National Geographic Rock Tumbler
When I was a child I really enjoyed rocks. Whenever we would go to a mineral store or a national park I would buy a few shiny rocks for my collection. One of the things I always wanted was a rock tumbler to make my own rocks. When our second oldest son showed an interest in rocks we decided to get him a tumbler so he could make his own.
